Masonry Crack Repair

At Advantage Masonry we realize that each job is unique. Based on our experience we know that the color of the mortar on each job is different, in fact the color can change from location to location on the same structure.

What Causes the Mortar Color to Change?
Changes in the color of the existing mortar can be caused by one or more of the following.

• Different workers mixing mortar batches on the same job
• Mold and Mildew
• Sunlight
• Exposure to the elements such as rain, temperature and wind

How Do We Match the Color?
First we inspect the entire job and carefully examine all areas in need of repair. We take readings from three elevations at each of these areas, lower, middle and at the top.

We do this because the farther water flows down a masonry surface the more saturated the masonry becomes. It takes longer for the lower area to dry than the upper areas thereby making the mortar progressively darker as you move down from the top.

The upper areas are many times protected from moisture and sunlight which also contributes to the differences in color.
